Accessing Passwords on Android

To open the built-in password manager in Chrome, you need to follow these steps:

  1. launch the browser;
  2. click on the button with three vertical dots in the upper right corner of the window;
  3. select “Settings” and go to “Passwords”;
  4. scroll down the page to find all saved data;
  5. pick the account for which you want to know the password;
  6. you will be transferred to the password editing page;
  7. you can copy the password or just view it by clicking on the eye icon.

If you need to delete the data of one of the accounts, click the trash can icon, which is located in the upper right corner of the profile page. You need to enter a PIN or use biometric data to complete the action. When info is removed, tap “Done,” and you will be returned to the page with a list of saved profiles.

Accessing Passwords on PC

The process of managing passwords on the desktop browser version is approximately the same:

  1. run the program and click the button with three vertical dots (upper right corner);
  2. open “Settings” and find “Autofill” in the list of functions on the left;
  3. open “Passwords” to see all the accounts that are saved in this Google profile;
  4. find the necessary account;
  5. you can view the password (by clicking on the eye icon), copy it, or change it.

If you want to edit the data or completely delete it, the system will ask you to enter a PIN, scan a fingerprint, or your face.

On the page with saved profiles, you can manage other settings. For example, you can enable or disable autofill, select sites for which passwords will not be saved, and even run a password strength check. The latter is essential if you want to increase your data protection. After identifying weaknesses, you can change the passwords to more complex ones.

On-Device Encryption Features

If you want to provide an extra layer of protection for your login details across multiple accounts, you can use the built-in encryption feature. To activate this option, you need to use a security key. After that, you will need to sign in to your Google account again, only now using that unique key. It gives you complete control over passwords, as you can quickly lock all data if something threatens their safety.

While it seems like a great idea, there is always the possibility that you will lose your security key and, therefore, access to all the accounts protected by it. Before activating this feature, you should seriously consider the real need for such a two-factor verification method. It is extremely necessary for various activists, journalists, and those people who may be subject to online attacks because of their work. Ordinary users can simply change passwords on the accounts they need.
